Library Policies

First grade students check out library books once a week, and the books stay in the classroom. Teachers may send their students in the mornings from 8:00 to 8:10 to check out a new book if they finish the book before their scheduled library day and take an Accelerated Reader test on the previous library book. Each book may be checked out for one more week unless there is a hold on that book.


Second grade students check out a picture book or a chapter book depending on their reading level. The books stay in the classroom until second semester where they can take the books home with a signed contract. Third grade students check out a picture book or a chapter book depending on their reading level once a week with a signed contract. Students can come in the library beginning at 7:30 to check out a new book if they finish the book before library day and take Accelerated Reader tests on the library book from the previous week. Each book may be checked out for one more week unless there is a hold on that book.


Fourth grade students check out a chapter book each week depending on their reading level once a week with a signed contract. Students can come in the library beginning at 7:30 to check out a new book if they finish the book before library day and take Accelerated Reader tests on the library book from the previous week. Each book may be checked out for one more week unless there is a hold on that book.


Fifth grade students check out 2 books a week depending on their reading level with a signed contract. Students can come in the library beginning at 7:30 to check out a new book and take Accelerated Reader tests on the library book from the previous week.Each book may be checked out for one more week unless there is a hold on that book.



The library contract for checkout to take home books is sent home with the students in third to fifth grade. Other students are considered on a case to case basis. Select Library Contract. Parents, please print and sign the contract and have your student return the contract to his/her teacher.


E-book check out

Students may check out 1 to 3 books at a time for a two week period.  Each book may be renewed one time.  For information on how to find e-books, the username and password check with the librarian. Students can review checking out ebooks with the video on the left hand side, click online resources, and the last video is ebook instruction. Library Pass Students coming to the library during the school day must have an "Official Library Pass."  Handwritten passes are discouraged.  Passes are not required before or after school. The library pass has been emailed to teachers. A copy can be found under library documents.

Fines
Students are not charged fines for overdue books.  Fines will be assessed for damaged pages, bindings and missing labels.  Students with lost or damaged books will be charged a replacement fee and will not be allowed to check out other materials until their fines have been cleared. All students are required to comply with the Internet Acceptable Use Policy described in DeSoto ISD Student Handbook and Code of Conduct Book. 

The Library assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen property. 

R-E-S-P-E-C-T
The library/media center is a place for reading, research and study. All visitors are expected to be respectful of classmates, teachers, administrators, campus guests, and all materials and equipment. Library users are expected to respect the Library and its property. Library users shall not deface or mark in books, magazines, recordings or other items of the library collections or in any way destroy or damage Library furnishings, walls, machines or other Library property.
