Biography
I am married to my best friend, Bart Diaz.  My husband also works for a school district and is the district Electrician for Ferris ISD.  We have been married for 10 years, but have known each other since we were 10 years old.  My husband and I grew up in Texas, in the Ferris area, and currently reside in Ennis, Tx, so I drive a bit to be a part of DeSoto.
**Even though all my school documents have me listed as Mrs. Garrett, I do prefer to go by my husbands name: Mrs. Diaz (which is what my students call me, I know, it's confusing).

I have the honor of also being a mother.  I have two amazing children - William and Haley.  William recently turned 19 and will be branching out to pursue his own college education.  What William is going to study is a mystery to me...but, like most people, he's trying to figure out which direction he wants to go.  My daughter, Haley, is 14 and is in the 9th grade and is ardently involved in art.  Her talent amazes me and she wants to hone that skill into a future profession.

I have only taught for 8 years.  I was given the wonderful opportunity to be able to stay home with my children while they were younger.  I cherish every year I had with them, but now? I have the joy of having a very fulfilling career as a teacher.  I get to spend every day helping to create, mold, and instill the love of reading in each of the children I have the pleasure and privilege to educate.

I began my career in Missouri, where I taught for 3 years as a Special Education teacher (Reading and Math) for Kindergarten-5th grade.  When my husband and I re-located back to Texas, I taught one more year as a Special Education teacher for Mabank ISD (5th/6th grade Reading and Writing).  When I was asked to join DeSoto ISD, I was excited and thrilled to delve into the opportunities that DeSoto offers.  Having grown up in Lancaster and Ferris, I was comfortable and familiar with DeSoto.  The best decision I have ever made, was deciding to be a part of such an amazing, supportive, and exceptional district; which is why I am starting my third year at Northside Elementary.
